Tableau vs QlikView
New Gartner report, again invoked the discussion on which tool is the best – Tableau vs QlikView.
– It is always challenging to compare the two tools because each bring lot of good functionality and advantages to the business community.

– Tableau brings in cool visualizations and ease of use.
– QlikView has a robust engine for ETL capabilities and visualizations. Qlik’s new baby, Qlik Sense, provides ease of development.
– I read on many forums that you don’t need QlikView’s ETL capability if the organization has an ETL application like Informatica or Datastage.
In my view, no matter how strong your data warehouse is or how much data preparation is done, you will always need to manipulate and transform data for your specific requirements.
– Tableau does provide limited data transformation capabilities and is improving with each version. Tableau takes self-analytics a step further and help business users in creating their own dashboards without the help of IT. QlikView does the same with Sense.
– It is easier for a new comer to learn Tableau. QlikView does takes longer in learning and understanding, only because it provides more functionality. It has both ETL and visualization.
In the end, both tools have their own advantages and disadvantages but important thing to understand is that these are just the tools which are used by people.
So before investing in any tool, invest in your people, in yourself – in understanding the concepts and understanding the business. Once you know your business, then only you can make a right decision on the selection of the application.
